Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Department of General Services Commissioner Sergio Panunzio joined City Treasurer Darius Shahinfar and Councilmembers Jack Flynn, Deborah Zamer, Joyce Love, and E. Hyde Clarke – members of the Common Council’s General Services, Health & Environment Committee – to highlight the City’s historic $10 million+ pavement preservation investments in 2022.
2022 Street Resurfacing Statistics:
- Nearly 70 Streets across the City of Albany – comprising more than 50,000 lane feet – will be resurfaced in 2022, a 30% increase from 2021
- 7 Streets will be micro-surfaced utilizing a state-of-the-art technology that extends the life of the streets and reduces ongoing maintenance costs
- 27 Sidewalks will be repaired and/or replaced as part of the pavement preservation program

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “Since taking office, my administration has invested more than $40 million in street and sidewalk revitalization, however we know we must invest even more to ensure our streets are in optimal condition. That is why I am so proud to have once again proposed a historic investment in streets and sidewalks, this year totaling more than $10 million. Thank you to Commissioner Panunzio and the Department of General Services for implementing these historic investments and ensuring our streets and sidewalks serve our residents for years to come.”
City of Albany Department of General Services Commissioner Sergio Panunzio said, “I am gratified that the City was able to resurface 30% more streets this year over previous years. This along with our new micro surfacing pavement preservation program residents will see a real difference in road travel across the city. Thank you to Mayor Sheehan and the Common Council for providing the funding to take our program to a new level.”
8th Ward Councilmember and Council General Services, Health, and Environment Committee Chairman Jack Flynn said, “The hard-working employees at the City of Albany Department of General Services are second-to-none and it is great to see so many streets and sidewalks being repaired across our City this summer.
