Create Financial Resilience – #BePrepared

Prepared

Town of Hanna recently issued the following announcement.

Once a week, leading up to Emergency Preparedness Week in May, we will be sharing some things you could be doing to prepare for an unexpected event. You will be seeing #BePrepared used locally, regionally, and provincially. Each week we will give you one small step to becoming more prepared.

What is Financial Resilience?

Financial resilience is about more than just having money in the bank. Only 54% of Albertans have the proper insurance and fewer have an emergency fund. Insurance is a financial safety net. When you have the right coverage it helps you and your loved ones recover when something bad or unexpected happens. Do you know what your policy covers and (more important) what it doesn’t cover? Take one minute to watch this video.

Some Things You Can Do

  • Understand the difference between insurable vs non-insurable and speak with your insurance provider about your needs.
  • Keep a detailed list of all property, including photos in case you have to file a claim.
  • Keep cash on hand as ATM’ s and debit services may be unavailable.
  • If possible, create an emergency savings account.
  • Keep receipts for all expenses incurred during an emergency.
  • Read and understand the 7 steps for making a home insurance claim from the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Register for Hanna Alerts

The Town of Hanna alert system is used to issue alerts in the event of an emergency or an event that may impact you. You will receive a time-sensitive text message and phone call on your mobile phone. If you have provided a landline number, you will receive a phone call with an automated voice. Notifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Public Safety Alerts such as water, fire, RCMP, or any event which is considered an immediate threat to the safety and well-being of some or all Hanna residents.
  • Local events such as water supply issues or snow removal schedules based on your residential address.
NOTE: This does NOT replace the Alberta Emergency Alert. Register today for the notification alerts by visiting Hanna Alert System on our website. A test alert will be issued during National Emergency Preparedness week in May.
