The Trinity River Authority (TRA), the City of Bedford’s water supplier, will be making improvements to its system, including upgrading the Murphy Drive Pump Station in Bedford over the next 2.5 years. The Murphy Drive Pump Station was originally constructed in 1980 and distributes treated drinking water to Bedford, as well as North Richland Hills, Colleyville, Euless, and Grapevine residents.

In an informational meeting held on March 9, a TRA representative shared the existing pump station is nearing its end of life, and therefore, improvements must be made on their property located just west of Murphy Drive and north of Cummings Drive in Bedford.

During the meeting, the TRA representative said they plan to construct a new pump station, electrical building, emergency generators, as well as add an emergency access drive and improve the current paved and unpaved access drives. Once the new pumps are operational, the existing pump station will be removed. In addition, two of the water tanks will undergo rehabilitation, as the others on the property have already been rehabbed. Once these improvements are complete, the TRA said they will not need to replace equipment for approximately 30-40 years.

To reduce noise and improve neighbors’ sight line, TRA will remove the existing chain link fence with privacy slats and replace it with an 8-foot composite fence around the entire perimeter of the property. This more substantial fence should help reduce noise, on top of future sound-reduction methods TRA plans to add inside the new pump station and emergency generator buildings.

TRA said it is important to them to comply with the City of Bedford’s noise and construction regulation ordinances. TRA staff will be on-site throughout construction, as well. According to the City ordinances, construction is permitted between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Residents may file noise complaints through the Code Compliance by visiting www.bedfordtx.gov/code, and select “Noise Complaint” from the drop-down menu.
