What makes a community a place you want to live? Spend time in? Visit? Over the next year, residents have the opportunity to voice their opinions and be a part of a very important process that will help shape Bedford’s future – updating the City’s Master Plan.

What is a Master Plan and why should you care?

While it may sound boring, a Master Plan is a very important document. It is a city's official guide for making decisions about future growth and redevelopment. While Bedford is largely built-out, there are still many opportunities to create destinations and places people want to experience.

Master Plans include goals, objectives, policies, strategies, programs, and projects that will enable the city to achieve its mission of focusing on the future, working together to build strong neighborhoods, developing a sound economy, and providing a safe community.

Doesn’t Bedford have a Master Plan?

The Master Plan should be updated regularly as communities change. It has been over a decade since Bedford has updated its Master Plan; and, given the changes in our community and how the world has changed in recent years, now is the perfect time to look at our community and prepare for the future.

The City has created a special website called “Be Heard Bedford” designed to gather residents’ opinions on various topics such as how to improve neighborhoods, important issues Bedford is facing, and what makes shopping/restaurant developments attractive.

Be Heard Bedford also has more information about the project, a timeline, important documents and maps, upcoming meeting dates, staff contact information, and more.

While everyone can view the Be Heard Bedford website, users must register to participate in the discussion and provide their ideas and opinions. To get started and be a part of Bedford’s future, please visit https://beheardbedford.com.
