Pharmacy’s Arnold selected for fellowship in Israel | auburn
While many on the Auburn University campus will slow down over the holiday break, the Harrison College of Pharmacy’s Rusty Arnold is gearing up for a trip to Israel to collaborate with peers in science and technology. Selected for the competitive Faculty Fellowship Program sponsored by the Jewish National Fund, USA, Arnold will travel to Israel from Dec. 26-Jan. 8.
“I am excited to learn more about Israel and the different research programs that complement our research strengths here at Auburn University,” said Arnold, a professor in the Harrison College of Pharmacy’s Department of Drug Discovery and Development.
Arnold is one of just 35 participants from 26 colleges and universities selected for the fellowship. Arnold’s area of expertise involves developing drug delivery systems using nanoparticles to treat cancers. While in Israel, he will meet with a number of faculty from the Institute for Drug Research and the School of Pharmacy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Additionally, Arnold will meet with faculty from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Tel Aviv University.
“The goal of the program is to give faculty a chance to learn about Israel and its cultural and technological activities,” said Arnold. “I am seeking to discuss opportunities to advance our educational and research programs with some of the leading investigators and institutions in Israel.”
The Faculty Fellowship Program in Israel is a competitive academic fellowship that invites full-time university and college faculty members to apply to participate in an academic trip to Israel. The program seeks to link scholars from diverse disciplines with their Israeli counterparts at major institutions for the purpose of initiating exchanges and collaborations.
During the trip, the 35 participants will meet Israelis from all walks of life and will hear from a variety of speakers. They will also be exposed to contemporary Israeli society, culture, historical sites and the way of life in Israel. The academics meet with professionals and experts in science, technology, government, education, media and other sectors to understand the many facets of Israel’s evolving national and international policies.
