City of Boulder Launches New Emergency Mapping Tool

The City of Boulder is excited to announce the launch of Zonehaven, a new web-based emergency mapping tool for the community. The implementation of Zonehaven will help emergency responders more effectively plan and communicate evacuations. The Zonehaven platform also provides community members direct access to real-time evacuation and emergency information. The city’s emergency personnel coordinated with Zonehaven to divide the map of the city of Boulder into “Zones.” Each zone has a corresponding number on the Zonehaven map. Emergency personnel will use the mapping tool during an emergency to plan and execute evacuations. Community members will be able to go to the map at community.zonehaven.com to check the evacuation status for their zone(s) and access critical emergency information, including evacuation points, shelters and more.“After many months of hard work from members of multiple departments across the city, we are excited for the launch of this software,” said Wildland Division Chief Brian Oliver. “Zonehaven not only helps us as first responders execute evacuation notifications more quickly and effectively, it also gets critical emergency information into the hands of community members in a way we haven’t been able to achieve before.”It’s important to “Know Your Zone.” Community members are encouraged to visit Zonehaven and become familiar with the platform before the next emergency. To find your zone, go to community.zonehaven.com and enter your address into the search bar and write down your zone number. The platform also provides accessibility and language options.Zonehaven does not replace the need for Everbridge or Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). Emergency alerts sent out to the community via Everbridge or WEA will include a direct link to Zonehaven, providing community members with quick access to critical emergency information as soon as updates are available. At its best, Zonehaven works in concert with alert systems the city already has. Community members are strongly encouraged to sign up to receive Everbridge emergency alerts for any address important to them, such as a home, school, or place of work. Community members may sign up for more than one address. To sign up to receive Everbridge alerts, visit: https://boco911alert.com/For more information on how to prepare for an emergency, visit the city’s emergency preparedness guide at https://bouldercolorado.gov/guide/emergency-preparedness.
