New Dog Park in Rawlins

The Rawlins Dog Park will be opening this Saturday!  While we are still working on adding amenities, with the fence complete, we would like to open the park to the public. This project comes two years after the original $9,800.00 of funding was set aside from Wyoming Community Gas in 2020. Both the 2020 and 2021 Wyoming Community Gas funds were designated to the dog park totaling $20,000.00.

The new Dog Park is located at Key Club Park at 800 Colorado St. The initial phase includes:

  • An “Any Dog Area” of about 1.5 acres featuring natural landscapes and various elevations.
  • A “Small (under 30 pounds) and Elderly Dog Area” of about ½ acre. This allows those dog owners to separate their dogs from large or younger, rambunctious dogs if they choose.
  • Signage regarding park regulations, sponsors, and a link to a survey to track usage and ask for feedback on future amenities (additional signage coming soon).
  • Two picnic tables and six park benches.
  • Multiple doggy waste stations and trash cans.
  • Two portable toilets.
  • Human and Canine Drinking Fountain (installed in the next two weeks).  This features a bowl for the dogs at the bottom and a traditional drinking fountain above. Excess water from the fountain will be used for new trees in the park.
  • Parking in the lot at Key Club Park is limited, so parking along Colorado Street is also encouraged.
After funding was set aside totaling $45,000 in 2021, Parks and Recreation staff hosted two Town Hall meetings and an online feedback form to gain input from our community about the location and amenities of the dog park. The City of Rawlins has applied for a Carbon County School District #1 grant to purchase a shade structure for the “Any Dog” area.

With the limited funding still available for Phase 1, we will base the final additions on feedback from park users. Park visitors are encouraged to take a survey and share what future amenities they would like to see. It is available as a QR code at the park or www.rawlinswy.gov/dogparksurvey 10,228.14
