Raccoon Distemper Increase

Raccoon Distemper Increase
0Comments

Bedford recently issued the following announcement.

The DFW area is seeing an increase of the distemper virus in raccoons. Raccoons with distemper may move slowly, stumble as they walk, or appear blind or confused, in addition to having tremors, seizures, or chewing fits. If you happen to notice a raccoon or other wild animals exhibiting odd behavior, please call the Bedford Animal Shelter at 817-952-2191.

Now is a good time to make sure your pets are up to date on their vaccines, including the distemper vaccine. If you don’t have a regular veterinarian, the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) offers low-cost vaccines for cats and dogs, and is located in Hurst. For additional information, visit the TCAP website.
